We recognise that our family work relates to a process that can be both unwanted and traumatic, but long experience of getting our clients through such experiences gives us the wisdom to seek to engage constructively with the other people involved and not to unnecessarily inflame the dispute.   Our commitment to that ethos is shown by being a member of Resolution, the solicitors’ family law association.

You stay in Control  

Although we can advise as to what you are entitled to have taken into account when dealing with your former partner, we want you to feel in control.   Partly because we seek to find a resolution that everybody can live with, our legal fees are often less than the more combative solicitors we encounter.

As solicitors, we advise and provide information about law and procedure, but the choices will ultimately be yours, not ours.  We want to help you make good choices, not take over.

Sometimes people want to deal with the situation themselves, but even if you decide against being represented by a solicitor generally, we can help with particular stages or forms, such as the Divorce Petition, the Affidavit in Support of Petition or the financial Form E, which people often find difficult.  

Expertise and Experience

Our family-law expert, Lewis Hulatt, has been a solicitor in Surrey for over 20 years and is a long-serving member of the team at Hedleys.     Lewis trained as a general mediator in 1996 and was accredited for family mediation work in 2002.
